Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
We had a fantastic week!! Thank you for checking out all of our classroom happenings :)
Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: -"Tell me about your in-house Native American field trip today!" - "What animal are researching for your non-fiction book? Tell me one interesting fact you have learned." - "What was your reading group's play about? What part did you play?" Highlights of our week: Math- We began telling time to the nearest five minutes. As you probably noticed with our last minute homework assignment :), this is a tough concept. Please practice telling time with your child as much as possible over the weekend. We know that analog clocks are hard to come by these days, so here are some online games to help: http://www.math-play.com/time-games.html http://www.math-play.com/time-games.html Reading- This was our Reader's Theater week. Each reading group was given a play to practice and have or will perform in front of the class. Our class loves getting the opportunity to practice fluency and perform in front of their classmates!! Writing- Each student chose an animal to research on PebbleGo.com. Next they listed facts under the following headings: Body, Food, Habitat. After that, they wrote the facts in sentence form. Last they created a non-fiction book which included the following non-fiction text features: table of contents, bold words, headings, diagram, photographs, and glossary. They have had so much fun with each step and their finished products are turning out awesome!! Next week's Curriculum: Math: Customary measurement (inches, feet, yards) Reading: Poetry Writing: Procedural Writing (How-to) Science: Light and Sound Secret word of the week: thankful We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
