Happy Monday! I am sorry about the late blog post, but had family come in town this weekend, and the time just got away from me :). We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!!
Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: - "What is the difference between a fact and opinion?" - "What does an adjective describe? What does an adverb describe?" - "If there is a fire in your house and you are stuck in your room on the second floor of your house, what should you do? " Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- We began adding 3-digit numbers using the expanded form strategy. Please continue to practice this with your child this week along with their math facts. Grammar- We introduced adverbs and discussed how they describe verbs just like adjectives describe nouns. We will continue working with adverbs this week. Science- We began learning about stars and our solar system. Writing- We spent a lot of time talking about the difference in facts and opinions. Next Week: Math- Subtracting with 3-digit numbers Reading - Fables and Folktales continued (we will read different versions of Cinderella and discuss the similarities/differences, themes, etc) Writing- Opinion Writing (continued) Science- Stars continued Secret Word: stars We hope you all had a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose to edit.

On Friday, we celebrated the hundredth day of school!! We can not believe we have had your sweet babies for 100 days already!! We also had to say good-bye to one of our students :(.. We will sure miss our sweet Emme, but know that she will have an amazing time at her new school!
Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: - "Tell me about Lily from Lily's Purple Plastic Purse." - "What are five adjectives you could use to describe yourself." - "What creative picture did you make using the numbers 1-0-0? " Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- We continued adding three and four 2-digit numbers. We worked through some challenging word problems and were proud the classes' hard work! Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts with your child each night! Grammar- We learned about and practiced using adjectives all week. The Secret Bags were a hit and the class loved trying to guess each person's item. It was lots of fun!! Social Studies/Science- We took an assessment on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and began talking about seasons. We will continue this in the upcoming week. Writing- We practiced writing a friendly letter to share our favorite characters, favorite parts, etc of the children's book Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. Next Week: Math- Place Value with 3-digit numbers (students should be able to write these numbers in word form, expanded form, and draw base ten blocks). and we will also begin learning strategies to add 3-digit numbers (expanded form and number line) Reading - Fables and Folktales continued (we will read different versions of the Three Little Pigs and discuss the similarities/differences, themes, etc) Writing- Opinion Writing (continued) Secret Word: opinion We hope you all had a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr!! " Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts with your child each night. We are currently working on adding three or four 2-digit numbers (ex. 14 + 56 + 28 = ?). Our class did a fantastic job grasping the process of adding more numbers, but there were lots of basic fact errors. We will send home an assessment this week so that you can see how your child is doing. Reading- Reading logs will begin again this week. Please be sure to record the books your child is reading on their Six Flags reading log as well, so they can earn a free ticket to Six Flags!! Social Studies- We read non-fiction books and watched a few videos to learn about the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing- We learned about the five parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, signature) and learned where to put commas when writing one. We wrote a friendly letter to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and decorated a Happy Birthday card as well. We have some fantastic artists in our class. We love seeing their creativity!! Next Week: Math- Adding up to four 2-digit numbers (we will extend this concept with word problems and adding numbers that equal greater than 100) Reading - Fables and Folktales Writing- Writing About Reading (students will write friendly letters giving the opinion about the characters, favorite parts, illustrations of the book Lily's Purple Plastic Purse Social Studies- Contributions of Historical Figures- MLK, Jr. We will celebrate our 100th Day of School on Friday!!!
