Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
Than you for visiting our blog today!!
Here are some conversation starters to have with your child: - "What song did you sing to help you remember which way "rows" go? - "Which narrative topic from your spring break did you choose to write about?" - "One reason an author writes is to inform readers. What are two more reasons?" -"What are goods and services? Give me an example of each." Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- This week we practiced partitioning rectangles into equal rows and columns and then counting to see how many units there were in all. This is an introduction to multiplication (arrays). We even practiced writing repeated addition sentences. Your child's test will be coming home next week. They did great with this concept. We will continue this concept next week as well. Students will practice building arrays using objects (skittles, drawing pictures, etc). Grammar- We reviewed prefixes and suffixes. You can review this at home by giving your child a word (ex. drop) and having him/her adding suffixes (dropped, dropping, drops) Social Studies- We reviewed goods and services and will continue this concept next week. Writing- We reviewed narrative writing and wrote a narrative about something that happened over Spring break. This piece of writing will be used as an end of the year writing piece. We also let students read their writing from the beginning of the year and discussed all of their progress! Reading- We talked about an author's purpose and that authors usually write books to inform, entertain, or persuade their readers. We read various types of literature (articles, fiction books) and determined the author's purpose. Secret Words: Braves We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
