Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
Thank you for visiting our blog today!!
Here are some conversation starters to have with your child: - "What are the difference between even and odd numbers?" - "Would you rather have a dog or cat as a pet? Tell me why." - "Tell me about one of the Scholastic News articles you read this week?" -"How is your plant growing?" Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- This week we learned the difference between even and odd numbers with various hands-on activities. They seemed to catch on to this concept pretty easily. Two math concepts that several students are still struggling with are counting money and adding/subtracting 3-digit numbers. Please continue to practice these concepts at home. Each student knows which strategy is best for them, so please make sure they practice using that strategy. Grammar- We are working on present and past tense verbs. Science- We have been studying life cycles. Each student planted a bean, and we have been watering and observing them grow. We are also watching the life cycle of a butterfly! Our butterflies are currently in the chrysalis stage. We love watching them each day!! Writing- We reviewed opinion writing and wrote an opinion piece about which pet was better: cat or dog. This piece of writing will be used as an end of the year writing piece. We also let students read their writing from the beginning of the year and discussed all of their progress! Reading- We are continuing to determine the author's purpose in a variety of articles. We are also practicing answering comprehension questions about texts we read to prepare for the end of year DRA which determines the reading level each student will enter 3rd grade on. Secret Words: butterflies We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
