2nd Grade
Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr!! We spent a lot of time learning about his amazing accomplishments and hope you enjoyed celebrating this special day with your family.
Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: - "What is one thing you learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. this week? - "Name the five parts of a friendly letter." - "What is a fable? " Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts with your child each night. We are currently working on adding three or four 2-digit numbers (ex. 14 + 56 + 28 = ?). Our class did a fantastic job grasping the process of adding more numbers, but there were lots of basic fact errors. We will send home an assessment this week so that you can see how your child is doing. Reading- Reading logs will begin again this week. Please be sure to record the books your child is reading on their Six Flags reading log as well, so they can earn a free ticket to Six Flags!! Social Studies- We read non-fiction books and watched a few videos to learn about the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing- We learned about the five parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, signature) and learned where to put commas when writing one. We wrote a friendly letter to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and decorated a Happy Birthday card as well. We have some fantastic artists in our class. We love seeing their creativity!! Next Week: Math- Adding up to four 2-digit numbers (we will extend this concept with word problems and adding numbers that equal greater than 100) Reading - Fables and Folktales Writing- Writing About Reading (students will write friendly letters giving the opinion about the characters, favorite parts, illustrations of the book Lily's Purple Plastic Purse Social Studies- Contributions of Historical Figures- MLK, Jr. We will celebrate our 100th Day of School on Friday!!!
