Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
We had a fantastic time at the Fire Safety Village! Please chat with your child about all that we learned!! They are definitely well educated on fire safety and lot a of other safety topics. And, their behavior was amazing!!! We are so proud of them!!
Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: - "Why did you make s'mores during writing? How did Mrs. Rose teach you to remember all of the things that should be in an opinion piece of writing?" - "How were the versions of Cinderella you read this week alike? How were they different?" - "What did Kelsie's shadow look like at 8:30? What about at 12:00? " Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- We introduced how to subtract 3-digit numbers. We taught students how to solve these problems by drawing base ten blocks and trading (regrouping) when needed. Some students were also introduced to subtraction with expanded form. We will continue to practice adding and subtraction 3-digit numbers words next week along with one and two-step word problems. Grammar- We did a group sort with adverbs. The class seemed to catch onto this concept pretty well. Adverbs describe verbs by telling "when", "how" or "where" actions are happening. Next week we will spend more time determining whether a word is an adverb or adjective. Science- We are having so much fun learning about stars! We were so proud of this week's homework assignment and ALL of the knowledge they were able to write about! We have some star experts in our class! :) Writing- Writing was probably a favorite this week since two days included chocolate (yum). We discussed how an opinion piece of writing can be compared to a S'mores. The top graham cracker is your opinion. The marshmallow is one reason to support your opinion along with an example. The chocolate is another reason and example to support your opinion and the last graham cracker is the conclusion where you restate your opinion. We also taste-tested several different pieces of chocolate, used lots of juicy adjectives to describe them, and then chose our favorite. Next week will write an opinion piece on our favorite and do some more opinion writing activities. Reading- We read several versions of Cinderella and compared/contrasted the versions. Next week we will continue this reading a version from the stepmother's perspective (that should be interesting :)). Next we will move to the folktale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Secret Words: field trip We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
