Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
We are back bloggin'! :) We hope you enjoy reading about your child's week!
Here are some conversation starters to have with your child: - "What is the job of the president?" - "Give me a stronger adjective than hot." - "What do four quarters equal?" - "Should schools make student eat healthier foods or let them choose? Why?" Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- We have spent the last two weeks working on counting money and money word problems. There are still some students that are really struggling with counting money especially when the amount goes over $1.00. Please continue to practice counting money with your child. As you know, this is a lifelong skill, and we want to see all students master it. Next week, we will be reviewing adding and subtracting three-digit numbers, but focusing on adding with a number line and subtracting using the expanded form strategy. Grammar- We have been talking about "shades of meaning". We discussed weak adjectives and strong adjectives. (Ex. hot is a weaker adjective than blistering). Students are encouraged to use strong adjectives when writing! Social Studies- We are currently learning the role of a mayor, governor, and president. We will continue this next week. Writing- This week in writing we read two passages that had different opinions on the same topic. We practiced identifying the author's main point and reasons. Then we each decided which opinion we agreed with and wrote a piece supporting our opinion. Next week students will write a letter to you about their opinion on a specific topic (you will love these :)). This assignment will be used as a writing assessment. Reading- We read several fiction books and discussed the author's point of view. Next week we will practice retelling to prepare for a reading assessment for report cards. Secret Words: Falcons We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
