Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
Than you for visiting our blog today!! As you see from your child's report card, we are so proud of all the progress we have seen from our awesome class this year! We can't believe that there are only 8 more weeks of school left. Please speak with your child about continuing their fantastic behavior and work ethic! Students tend to get Spring fever about this time of year and behavior begins to decline. We still have a lot more to learn and a lot more fun to be had!! We really appreciate your support!
Here are some conversation starters to have with your child: - "What is one thing that you have learned about Jimmy Carter?" - "Name three shapes that are quadrilaterals." - "What favorite thing did you choose to write about? Why is it your favorite?" -"Who is Buttercup and why did he have a hard time walking?" Weekly Curriculum Update: Math- This week we did lots of hands-on activities with shapes. We made 2D shapes with pretzels and marshmallows, and a cube with toothpicks and marshmallows. We learned what shapes are considered polygons, which shapes are considered quadrilaterals and discovered attributes of triangles, squares, rectangles, trapezoids, pentagons, and hexagons. Grammar- This week we introduced possessive nouns and did some partner activities to practice identifying them. Social Studies- We learned about Jimmy Carter and his contributions to our US history. Writing- We wrapped up opinion writing and practiced using a rubric to make sure our pieces meet the writing standards. Reading- We read a Scholastic News about a duck with a backwards foot and how a special solution was created to help the duck walk. We then looked for the main idea in each section, practiced locating answers within the text, and practiced our fluency by reading it with a partner. Thank you for reading about our classroom happenings!!! Secret Words: polygon We hope you all have a fabulous weekend! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
