Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Rose
2nd Grade
Happy Friday!! Parents, we need your help!!
- Please send in earbuds/headphones with your child if you have not already. We are now using our I-pads a lot in the classroom, and students are not able to have sound if they do not have any. *You can purchase them at the Dollar Store. Here are some conversation starters to hear more about your child's week: -"What are tiny topics? What memories did you write about? Let's try to think of a few more that you can add to your notebook." -"What is skip-counting?" -"Show me the motions for the vocabulary words you learned during Social Studies this week (nature, history, rivers, plaza, roundhouses, ceremonies). -"What did Peyton and Skylar's family share with you today?" "Show me the motions you learned to remember the definition of main idea and supporting details. Highlights of our week: Math- Skip-counting by 5s, 10s, 100s from any given number has NOT been easy!! We are very proud of the perseverance in our students with this tough skill! You can help at home by giving your child any number between 1 and 1,000 and asking him/her to skip-count by 5s, 10s, or 100s (going backwards and forwards). Reading- We were very interested in finding the main idea and supporting details in our nonfiction texts!! When you are reading with your child at home, (20 minutes each night :)) be sure to discuss the main idea and supporting details. Writing- we wrote memories/moments in our Tiny Topics notebooks and are now working to write a narrative on one of our tiny topics. We are really trying to embrace the idea that every day we experience things we can write about. Some of us are having a hard time coming up with memories/moments. You can help at home by discussing funny, scary, exciting moments that you have experienced as a family. Next week's Curriculum: Math: Counting Money (dimes, nickels, pennies) Reading: Main Idea and Supporting Details Writing: Narrative Writing Social Studies: Creek and Cherokee Indians Grammar: Verbs Secret word of the week: narrative We hope you all have a fabulous long weekend and we can't wait to see of those sweet smiling faces on Tuesday!! :) Mrs. Hess & Mrs. Rose
